Convert shopping quantities to the same unit

Pack sizes are easier to compare when their quantities use the same unit. A 500 g bag and a 1 kg bag do not need different pricing methods; they need a unit conversion first. The weight and volume converter handles grams and kilograms, or millilitres and litres.

Choose the measurement type

Select weight for g and kg. Select volume for mL and L. Then enter the quantity and choose “From” and “To”. For 500 grams, enter 500, select g and kg, and read 0.5 kg. For 750 millilitres, enter 750, select mL and L, and read 0.75 L. Selecting the same unit in both fields leaves the quantity unchanged.

Understand the factor of 1,000

One kilogram contains 1,000 grams. One litre contains 1,000 millilitres. To move from the smaller unit to the larger unit, divide by 1,000. To move back, multiply by 1,000. This applies to decimals too: 1.25 kg is 1,250 g, and 0.05 L is 50 mL.

Compare two bags fairly

Suppose a 500 g bag costs 45 and a 1 kg bag costs 80. Convert 500 g to 0.5 kg. In the unit price calculator, enter 45 and 0.5 for Pack A, then 80 and 1 for Pack B. The results are 90 per kg and 80 per kg. Pack B has the lower unit price, about 11.11% below Pack A.

These are illustrative prices in one currency, not quoted local market prices. The larger pack also requires more money upfront. Storage space, quality and how much you can use before spoilage still matter.

Weight and volume are different

A gram measures mass; a millilitre measures volume. You cannot generally replace 500 g with 500 mL. The relationship depends on the material's density. This tool deliberately keeps weight and volume separate and does not calculate cross-type conversions.

Use the product's stated net quantity for a pack-price comparison. The weight of its bottle, bag or shipping box is usually not the quantity you consume. A recipe may use cups or spoons whose sizes depend on the convention; those measures are outside this converter.

Check small quantities and rounding

A quantity of zero converts to zero. Negative values and blank fields are rejected. Very small or large outputs may appear in scientific notation to preserve useful digits. The converter uses ordinary browser number arithmetic; it is intended for everyday comparisons rather than laboratory measurements requiring specified uncertainty.
